Most app marketers running Meta and TikTok campaigns side by side are working from two different, both-slightly-wrong install counts. Without a proper measurement setup, you cannot trust either platform's self-reported numbers.

A Mobile Measurement Partner integration is non-negotiable before scaling any app install campaign — without it, you are attributing installs based on self-reported data that double-counts and lacks cross-channel deduplication.

Start With a Mobile Measurement Partner

An MMP (AppsFlyer, Adjust, or Singular are the three most common) sits between your app and every ad platform. It receives install and event data from Meta, Google, and TikTok simultaneously, then applies deduplication logic so the same install is not credited to two platforms at once, plus fraud filtering to strip out click spam and install farms.

Without an MMP, you are stuck comparing Meta's in-platform install count against TikTok's in-platform install count — two numbers that were never designed to be compared against each other, since each platform has an incentive to over-attribute.

Setting Up Server-Side Tracking

  • Meta Conversions API: configure this alongside (not instead of) the Meta Pixel/SDK, so server-to-server postbacks catch events that client-side tracking misses due to ad blockers or iOS restrictions
  • TikTok Events API: found under Assets and Events in TikTok Ads Manager, this generates an Access Token and Pixel Code you will hand to your MMP or developer for server-side event forwarding
  • Why server-side matters: server-to-server postbacks are more reliable than client-side pixels because they do not depend on the user's browser or device cooperating with tracking scripts

SKAN 4 Setup for iOS

iOS attribution runs through Apple's SKAdNetwork framework, and as of SKAN 4 this uses three attribution windows — 0-2 days, 3-7 days, and 8-35 days — instead of the old rolling 24-hour window. You need to map your conversion events to numeric values before launch, not after.

  • Registration: values 1-5
  • Tutorial completion: values 6-15
  • First purchase: values 16-30
  • Repeat purchase: values 31-63

This mapping needs to be finalized and tested before your campaign goes live — SKAN postbacks cannot be retroactively remapped for traffic that already ran. Get this wrong at launch and you lose weeks of usable optimization data while you wait to relaunch with corrected values.

As of 2026, Meta also supports Apple's Ad Attribution Kit postbacks alongside standard SKAdNetwork, so if you are running on a mix of iOS 16 and iOS 17+ devices, confirm your MMP supports both frameworks simultaneously — most advertisers assume one covers the other and lose attribution on part of their iOS traffic as a result.

Keep Campaign Naming Consistent

None of the tracking infrastructure above matters if your reporting is a mess. Use a consistent naming convention across every platform, something like:

  • Platform_Campaign_Objective_Date — for example, Meta_Summer24_Installs_0801

This sounds trivial until you are trying to build a blended dashboard across Meta, TikTok, and your MMP six months from now, pulling data from three different naming systems that do not match.

Conclusion

If you are currently relying only on in-platform reporting from Meta and TikTok, treat an MMP integration as your next infrastructure priority before you increase spend further. Start with a 2-week pilot on one MMP, map your SKAN 4 conversion values before any new iOS campaign launches, and standardize campaign naming across both platforms so your blended reporting is usable from day one.

Data according to Tenjin and SEM Nexus.

Pro Tip

Always test your campaigns with small budgets first. Scale up only after you've proven profitability and optimized your conversion funnel.
