A good Event Match Quality (EMQ) score for Meta's Conversions API is 7.0 or higher out of a possible 10. That's the threshold Meta associates with optimal ad delivery and accurate attribution. Meta's own stated internal benchmark sits around 6.0, scores between 6.0 and 7.0 are flagged as needing improvement, and anything below 6.0 is treated as a real problem for how well events get matched to real Facebook or Instagram profiles.

What EMQ Actually Measures

Event Match Quality scores each conversion event you send through the Conversions API based on how much reliable customer information came with it — email, phone number, name, location data, and similar identifiers Meta can hash and compare against its own user records. The more of that identifying information a given event carries, and the more accurately it matches a real account, the higher the score. It's a per-event-type metric, not a single account-wide number, which is why a Purchase event and a PageView event on the same account can carry very different scores.

Targets Differ by Event Type

  • Purchase events: 8.8 to 9.3 is the ideal range, since these are the highest-value events advertisers optimize toward and Meta expects the richest data to accompany them
  • AddToCart events: aim for 8.0 or above
  • PageView events: 6.5 to 7.5 is considered a normal range, reflecting that page views typically carry less identifying data than a completed purchase

The Single Biggest Lever

Sending a hashed email address with every event is the change that moves EMQ the most — reported to lift scores by up to 4 points on its own. Email alone typically gets a business into the 5-to-6 range; adding phone number, name, and location data on top of that commonly pushes scores into the 7-to-9 range. The pattern holds across most implementations: match quality is really a function of how much first-party identity data makes it into each server-side event call, not a setting to tweak inside Events Manager itself.

Why Low EMQ Quietly Costs Money

A low Event Match Quality score doesn't produce an error or a warning banner — it degrades performance silently. Events Meta can't confidently match to a real account get discounted in how much weight they carry for optimization, which means campaigns bidding toward a conversion event with poor match quality end up optimizing against noisier, less reliable data than an advertiser sending well-matched events with the same nominal event volume.

How to Check Your Own Score

EMQ is visible directly inside Meta Events Manager, broken out by event type and by data source (Pixel versus Conversions API), which makes it possible to see exactly which event is dragging the account average down rather than guessing from overall performance alone.

Bottom Line

Check Events Manager for your account's current EMQ by event type, and if Purchase events are sitting below 8.0, start by making sure hashed email is present on every one of those events before adding other identifiers — it's the single change most likely to move the score into the range Meta treats as optimal.
